For this to happen is truly just sickening.
Adam Hilarie, a single father in Auburndale, Florida, made an online connection on the website PlentyOfFish with a woman named Hailey Bustos, and the two went out on a date Sunday night.
At the end of the date, Hilarie and Bustos went back to his apartment, where they stayed for a few hours before Hilarie took Bustos back to her place.
Just hours after that, though, Bustos returned to Hilarie’s apartment – only this time, it was with three men: Andre Warner, Joshua Ellington, and Gary Gray.
After a struggle in
Chief Deputy Andy Ray, of the Auburndale Police Department, warned others of the potential dangers of online dating, saying in a statement to media members:
“You just have to remember that you have no idea who you’re talking to. The person may represent themselves as one thing and be something totally different.”
Bustos and the three men were quickly captured by police, and they have all been charged with robbery and first-degree murder.
They are all being held in Polk County Jail before their first court appearances, which are expected sometime today.
Meanwhile, Cruz was just sad that his brother was the one to lose his life over something so senseless around the dangers of online dating:
“I just hate that my brother had to be the one to be an example.”
Our hearts go out…
For those interested, a GoFundMe page has been set up to cover funeral costs.
R.I.P. to Hilarie, and sincere condolences to his poor five-year-old daughter, now a girl growing up without a father.
